Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Susquehanna Valley Local Section of the American Chemical Society! Located in northeastern Pennsylvania, our section includes such schools as Bloomsburg University, Bucknell University, King's College, Lycoming College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Penn State Scranton, Penn State Hazelton, University of Scranton, Wilkes University, and Susquehanna University. Through our Website, you can access information about our officers, members, and monthly section meetings. The local regions of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences (PJAS) will be holding their annual high-school science competitions in-person this year. PJAS is always looking for local science professionals to volunteer to judge the STEM projects of the area’s 7th through 12th grade students. Region 2’s competition (the eastern half of the SVS section) is scheduled for Saturday, March 2. 2024. Pennsylvania Academy of Science
The Joseph Priestley House is located in the Susquehanna Valley Local Section in Northumberland. To commemorate Priestley's many scientific achievements, the American Chemical Society named its highest honour the Priestley Medal in 1922*. The visitor center is open from 1 - 4 PM and will feature costumed guides and live chemistry shows. For more information call the house at 570-473-9474 or see the website.
Electronic Monthly Newsletter
The Susquehanna Valley Local Section requests that you consider receiving our monthly newsletter by email. You will receive your newsletter at least a few days prior to the normal arrival rate for the hard-copy version. Also, if you are willing to forego the hardcopy altogether you will save our secretary time and our Local Section will save the expenses of photocopying and postage.Please send an email to our Local Section secretary to request your monthly newsletter via email. Please also let them know if you are willing to stop receiving the hard-copy of the newsletter. Thanks!
