Chemistry Exams for High School Students
The Susquehanna Valley Section of the American Chemical Society sponsors an annual competitive high school chemistry examinations to recognize and reward outstanding high school chemistry students in our area of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The examinations is held mid to late March on a Saturday morning at six colleges throughout the region. Please check this site closer to March for the exact date and time.
Use this table to find out the place your high school typically takes the exam.Two distinct exams are given. Exam A is open to those students who are currently enrolled in their first year of study in chemistry. Exam B is open to students currently enrolled in an advanced high school chemistry course.
MULTIPLE AWARDS will be given. For students taking Exam A, a Chemistry model set will be awarded to the student with the highest score in EACH of the six districts (where at least 4 students take the exam). For Exam B, there will be two awards of The Merck Index for the entire region. EACH school which participates will have one awardee, either a district winner or a runner-up. All winners and runners-up will receive a one-year subscription to ChemMatters.
The winning students with their teachers are invited to be our guests to receive their awards at the Annual Susquehanna Valley Section Awards Banquet in May at Bloomsburg University. Please check this site closer to May for the exact date and time.
