2021 - 2022 Schedule

SVS meetings are typically held in the evening on the second Wednesday of the month at rotating locations around the section. Any meeting that is moved from this standard date is indicated in red. Information is added and edited monthly, so check the site often!

  1. 15 September 2021 - 7pm at Bucknell University: Third Wednesday in September : The guest speaker will be Murray Johnston, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean for the Natural Sciences at the University of Delaware, who will present a talk titled "Aerosol Chemical Processes in the Atmosphere." Get details.

  2. 20 October 2021 - 6pm at Wilkes University: Third Wednesday in October : This year's Catherine Bone Lecture will feature Dr. William D. Phillips a 1997 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics which he shared with Steven Chu and Claude Cohen-Tannoudji who will present a talk titled "Time, Einstein and the coolest stuff in the universe." The lecture will be followed by a dinner at 8:00. Get details.

  3. 10 November 2021 - 7pm at Lycoming College: The meeting will feature Joseph Keane, Ph. D, Professor of Chemistry at Muhlenberg College. The title of the evening's talk will be "Shape in Chemistry: Examples from Dearomatization Studies and Potential Applications of Chiral C2-Symmetric Tetraamine Ligands." Get details.

  4. 9 March 2022 - 7pm at at Susquehanna University: The meeting will feature a presentation by our invited speaker and will be preceded by a dinner. The guest speaker will be Michael Parra , Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Susquehanna University and the title of the evening's talk will be "The influence of histone diversity on chromatin dynamics in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae."   5. 20 April 2022- 7pm at King's College: Third Wednesday in April: : The meeting will feature a presentation by our invited speaker and will be preceded by dinner. The guest speaker will be Mary Beth Browning Monroe , Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering at Syracuse University in New York and the title of the evening's talk will be "Shape Memory Polymers for Hemorrhage Control in Traumatic Wounds."   6. Monday, 2 May 2022 - Annual Awards Banquet at the Pine Barn Inn in Danville: With the presentation of various local section awards, the Annual Awards Banquet recognizes both aspiring and accomplished chemistry professionals in the area who have helped to promote chemistry, the chemical professions, and the section. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 PM and the guest speaker will be Dr. Douglas Collins of the Department of Chemistry at Bucknell University who will present a talk titled "Disinfecting our Indoor Environment: Intended and Unintended Chemistry."
