September 2008 Meeting

The three hundred and seventy-first meeting of the Susquehanna Valley Local Section will be a special event: the Local Section's Anniversary Celebration. The event will be in the afternoon of Saturday, 13 September 2008 at the Joseph Priestley House in Northumberland, PA. A program about the Susquehanna Valley Section history and its relationship with the Joseph Priestley House is planned. Snack food and beverages will be served under a tent in the yard of the Priestley House. These festivities will be followed by a dinner at the Townside Garden Cafe. You can help promote the event by posting this announcement.

If you plan to attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Joseph Priestley House, please RSVP to Suellen Beck by email sb047@bucknell.edu or phone 570.577.3258 by Tuesday, 9 September 2008 with the number of those attending. Dinner reservations (see below) can be made at the same time.

  • 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.
    • The Priestley video in visitor center will be available in 'continuous loop' fashion.
    • 'Open house'-style tour of the Joseph Priestley House at your own pace - docents will be available in each room to greet & interpret.
    • Time for shopping in the gift shop - sorry, no credit cards.
    • Bradley Shoemaker prints of Joseph Priestley House available for sale (Friends of Joseph Priestley House fund raiser).
  • 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.
  • 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

TO THE PRIESTLEY HOUSE

  • From Interstate Route 80 - Travel south on PA Route 147 to Northumberland, then north on US Route 11 for three blocks; follow the signs.
  • From US Route 11 - Travel north in Northumberland, one block north of the junction with PA Route 147 South; follow the signs.
  • From PA Route 147 North - Turn right on Priestley Avenue (first street after crossing the North Branch of the Susquehanna River); follow the signs.

DIRECTIONS TO THE TOWNSIDE GARDEN CAFÉ

  • From Interstate Route 80 - Travel south on PA Route 147 to Northumberland, then north on US 11 about π mile to Orange St. Take a left onto Orange St and go one block to Front St. Go left on Front and Townside Garden is on the right just past King St.
  • From US Route 11 North - Travel north on US11 to Orange St. in Northumberland, which is about π mile north from the intersection with Rt 147. Take a left onto Orange St and go one block to Front St. Go left on Front and Townside Garden is on the right just past King St.
  • From PA Route 147 North - Take 147 North to US 11 in Northumberland. Take US 11 north one block to Orange Ave. Take a left onto Orange St. and go one block to Front St. Go left on Front and Townside Garden is on the right just past King St.
  • From US 11 South - US 11 South in Northumberland is Front St. Look for 271 Front St to locate Townside Gardens.
